and more importantly osteoporosis risk management and fracture mitigation into the future...
W. Porter McRoberts MD FAAPMR ABPMR ABA
- What we do:
- We provide rapid diagnosis of and interventional and medical care for vertebral fractures and their underlying causes.
- We perform, diagnose and then treat with either kyphoplasty/Spine Jack/vertebroplasty or anterior surgical correction to restore spinal alignment before healing in the wrong position AND THEN we also treat the underlying osteoporosis so the fracture is a single event, not the start of many.
- We answer the phone. Either a physician or a medical professional: MD/PA/NP/RN triages your case, 24/7.
- We also biopsy, we brace, we rehabilitate, and we restore life and good living.
- Now there are 750,000 vertebral compression fractures a year in the US.pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/9240721/ pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/25188603/
- Untreated vertebral fragility/compression fractures result in a 37% increase in mortality.
- Between 2005 and 2008 858,978 fractures were reported. 182,946 Augmentations performed. 250,131 people died unnecessarially in that 3 year period.
Why is it imperative to have rapid and complete fracture management?
Untreated fractures increase mortality. Kyphoplasty reduces risk of death by 37%. 37% drop in mortality with Kyphoplasty
For every day of incapacitation we loose up to 5% of muscle mass.
Untreated fracture patients predispose to spinal deformity and future fractures.
Untreated fractures change carrying angle and predispose to falls
Untreated fractures reduce independence, impair activities of daily living, reduce walking, cardiovascular health.
Pain improves from 8.7 to 2.7 on average, Disability ODI improves from 63.4 to 27.1
WE ARE:

Spine fractures occur most commonly in osteoporotic folks, but can occur in anyone.
Fracture deformity results in fall risk, diminished lung volume, and elevated risk of death.
Poorly managed fractures, "left to heal on their own" results in future fractures.
Fracture management includes not just rapid vertebral stabilization, but also bracing, walking safety assesments, bone metabolism medicine, osteoporosis treatment and pain management.
